The Read Aloud feature uses your device's built-in voices. Nate (American male) and Ava (American female) are

  premium Apple voices that need to be downloaded once before they appear.

  On iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Settings app

  2. Tap Accessibility

  3. Tap Spoken Content

  4. Tap Voices

  5. Tap English

  6. Find Ava or Nate and tap the download icon next to each one

  On Mac:

  1. Open System Settings

  2. Click Accessibility in the sidebar

  3. Click Spoken Content

  4. Click Manage Voices… next to System Voice

  5. Find Ava or Nate under English voices and click the download button

  Once downloaded, refresh the ebook reader page and they will appear in the voice selector.

  FAQ: How do I open an ebook in Apple Books or my device's reader app?

  1. Open any ebook from the library and tap or click Download EPUB

  2. A prompt will appear with two options:

    - Open in device reader — opens the book directly in Apple Books (recommended on iPhone, iPad, and Mac)

    - Save to device — downloads the file to your device to open manually later

  3. On iPhone and iPad, after tapping "Open in device reader," iOS will show a menu asking which app to use — tap
