Modern Day Sorcery And Witchcraft: The Practice of Manifesting Exposed
The Babylonian Root: Self-Deification
The core of modern manifestation—the idea that thoughts create reality and that the human will is the ultimate arbiter of destiny—is not a new "New Age" discovery. It is the foundational occult teaching of ancient Babylon.
In the Babylonian mystery schools, the goal was often the mastery of the self to become like the gods. It is the "I Will" of the adversary, attempting to bypass the "Thy Will" of the Creator. Scripture reveals this prideful spirit in the heart of the king of Babylon:
"For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High" (Isaiah 14:13-14).
When we are told we can "attract" anything we want through our own mental power, we are being invited into this same system of self-deification. This is the hallmark of the "Mystery Babylon" described in scripture—a global system that looks like spiritual progress but is actually a rejection of divine authority.
The Warning: The Spirit of Control
The danger of this teaching is its subtlety. It appeals to our natural desire for security, wealth, and influence. However, scripture warns that we are not the masters of the universe; we are stewards of God’s grace.
When we engage in manifesting as the world defines it, we are often engaging in a form of spiritual manipulation. We are trying to bend the universe to our desires rather than yielding our lives to the King. The warning for the believer is clear:
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" (Romans 12:2).
We must heed the call to distance ourselves from this Babylonian mindset: "And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues" (Revelation 18:4). The spirit of Babylon seeks to make man the center; the Spirit of God seeks to make Christ the center.
The True Event: The Manifestation of the Sons of God
While the world is busy trying to manifest material gain, the Earth itself is groaning for something entirely different. Romans 8:19 tells us that the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the "manifestation of the sons of God."
Note the massive distinction:
- Worldly Manifestation is about what I can get.
- Biblical Manifestation is about who we are becoming in Christ.
This is not a mental exercise or a visualization technique. It is a divine event where the true followers of Christ are revealed in their glorified state. As the scripture says:
"For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God... Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God" (Romans 8:19, 21).
It is the culmination of God’s redemptive work—a moment where creation is set free from the bondage of corruption.
Choosing the Narrow Path
We are currently witnessing a collision of two systems. One system (Babylon) tells you that you are a god who can manifest your own kingdom. The other (The Kingdom of Heaven) tells you that you are a child of God called to die to yourself so that Christ may be manifest in you.
The warning for our generation is to stay vigilant and choose where our affections lie:
- "Love not the world... For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh... is not of the Father... the world passeth away... but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever" (1 John 2:15-17).
Do not trade your birthright for a counterfeit. The world’s version of manifesting is a shadow that will eventually fail, but the manifestation of the sons of God is an eternal reality that is already on the horizon. Let us stop trying to build our own towers of Babel and start preparing our hearts for the revealing of the King.
The Fallen Star: Isaiah 14 and the Root of Rebellion
The blueprint for modern spiritual deception began with a single "I will." In Isaiah 14:12-14, we see the fall of Lucifer, whose heart was lifted up in pride: "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God... I will be like the most High."
This ancient rebellion is the foundation of what the Bible calls the "sin of witchcraft." According to 1 Samuel 15:23, "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.". Today, this spirit manifests as a relentless push for total autonomy—the desire to be a "spiritual free agent" without submission to the Word of God.
The Pharmakeia Trap: Modern-Day Sorcery
In the apocalyptic vision of Revelation 18, we see the fall of Babylon, a system that intoxicates the entire world. The Scripture provides a startling clue as to how this system gains control: "for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived" (Revelation 18:23).
The Greek word translated here as "sorceries" is pharmakeia.
- The Root: This is the same root from which we derive the modern words pharmacy and pharmaceuticals.
- The Application: In a biblical context, it refers to the use of substances, potions, or "spells" to manipulate, control, or deceive others.
- The Modern Parallel: Many see a modern-day manifestation of this in the widespread dependency on mind-altering substances and the pharmaceutical industry’s role as a tool of global control. This "sorcery" isn't always about cauldrons; it is about the spiritual manipulation of the mind to keep the world in a state of deception.
Digital Enchantments and the "Witchcraft" of Media
Witchcraft is defined by manipulation, intimidation, and deception used to dominate others. In our digital era, this has taken on a high-tech form:
- Digital Witchcraft: Modern practitioners are now integrating smartphones and apps into their rituals, using digital tools to "amplify magic" and cast spells with every scroll.
- Algorithm as Enchantment: An enchantment is the use of repeated words, music, or symbols to influence the mind. Today’s social media algorithms, designed to be addictive and to silo users into specific mindsets, mirror this ancient practice.
- Media Influence: Songs, chants, and visual symbols used in modern entertainment are often "hidden in plain sight" to invite ungodly spiritual influence.
Love Not the World: The Warning of 1 John 2
Because these systems are so pervasive, the warning of 1 John 2:15-16 is more urgent than ever: "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world... For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."
Witchcraft entices the human heart with suggestions of self-empowerment and enlightenment apart from God. Whether through the "sorcery" of pharmaceuticals or the "enchantment" of a screen, the goal is the same: to divert worship away from the true God and toward the self or the system.
The Victory of the Spirit: Romans 8
Despite the rise of modern sorcery, we are not left defenseless. Romans 8:37 declares that "in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."
To overcome these modern enchantments, we must:
- Stay in the Word: The truth is the only thing that breaks the power of deception (John 8:32).
- Walk in the Spirit: If we walk in the Spirit, we will not fulfill the "lusts of the flesh," which include witchcraft (Galatians 5:19-20).
- Guard Our Minds: We must be intentional about what we watch and listen to, protecting our hearts from ungodly communications.
The systems of this world may use "sorcery" to deceive the nations, but the power of the Holy Spirit in the believer is far greater. As 1 John 4:4 reminds us, "Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.". AMEN!
