False Prophets For Profit
Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.”— Jeremiah 14:14 (KJV)
We are living in the last of the last days and many false prophets are arising in the land. They are not interested in giving God’s word. They don’t wait on God for a word for his people they prophesy out of their own spirit out of their own hearts, and they have not heard from God.
”And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”— Matthew 24:11 (KJV)
Jesus did not say there would be few. He said many false prophets that shall arise and deceive many. These false prophets are all about profit. They seek to make merchandise of people and they don’t care about the person's soul or where they’re soul is going to be in eternity. All they care about is money which the Bible teaches is the root to all evil - the love of it.
”For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”— 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV)
The Scripture is not talking about the world, it's referring to believers when it says "they erred from the faith," They had to be in the faith, for them to err from it. We see how money can seduce even God's people to put their trust in it.
A False Security
When people put their trust in money it becomes their God. Not just a god as a idol but their actual God. The god of money is very seductive and causes people to believe as long as they have it they're secure. The idea is that the more money I have the more blessed or secure i am. This false sense of security can even deceive the elect.
”For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”— Matthew 24:24 (KJV)
Notice how Jesus places false prophets in the same very verse as his elect being deceived. Is it any wonder that He would say that you cannot serve two masters?
”No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”— Matthew 6:24 (KJV)
”No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”— Luke 16:13 (KJV)
Who is your master?
The Lord ties money or mammon to money. He knows how money can seduce his people into a false sense of trust. You cannot serve the Lord and money. He goes as far as to say "he will hold to the one, and despise the other." This is very serious. The Lord says if you’re serving mammon or money you will come to despise him. Is it possible to despise the Lord after had known him? Depends on what we mean by know. Did Judas ever really know the Lord? He was one of the twelve that was chosen and walked with the Lord and his disciples for three-years. But did he know the Lord?
Do you know the Lord?
- How well do you know the Lord?
- How well does the Lord know you?
- How important is money to you?
- Are you controlled by money?
- Do you worry if you don't have money?
